Orders of Chivalry

Jovak Helm sometimes honors its citizens with Orders of Chivalry. These are:

The Most Celebrated Order of the Azure Ptarmigan. The highest order of chivalry in Jovak Helm, the Most Celebrated Order of the Azure Ptarmigan is limited in membership to a relatively low number set by the Co-Consuls. Once this number is met, there can be no more members of the Order until an existing member passes away or is expelled from the Order. Membership is granted for long-term deeds in the service of Jovak Helm. This is the highest civilian or military honor in the Co-Consulate.

There is one class of membership: Knight. A member of the Order is properly referred to as a Knight of the Azure Ptarmigan. Members of the Order are granted a neck order in the form of a golden chain to be worn over the shoulders and around the neck on formal occasions; hanging from the golden chain is a lapis ptarmigan emblem.

A member is properly referred to as "Sir" or "Dame," but in practice, this is not the case, as most members are likely to hold other titles as well. Members of the Order are entitled to affix the abbreviation "K.A.P." as a post-nominal, as in Sir John Doe, K.A.P. or, as noted, John Doe, K.A.P.

The Co-Consuls are Sovereigns of the Order.

The Most Excellent Order of the Co-Consulate of Jovak Helm. Membership may be granted for meritorious contribution to the security, national interests, or culture of Jovak Helm, or for conspicuous gallantry in combat. As such, appointment can be based on either (or both) civil and military deeds.

There are three classes of membership in the Order:

Knight Commander (K.J.H.)

Commander (C.J.H.)

Officer (O.J.H.)

Officers and Commanders are presented with a medal of the Great Seal of Jovak Helm affixed to a blue, black, and white suspension ribbon that may be pinned to one's clothing; they are also presented with a smaller ribbon bar for use when wearing the full medal would be impractical. Knight Commanders are presented with a neck ribbon. This ribbon is, along with the the chain of the Azure Ptarmigan, the only neck order in Jovak Helm.

A member may be appointed at any level; Officers and Commanders may be promoted. Only a Knight Commander may properly be referred to as "Sir" or "Dame," as only a Knight Commander is a knight. Members of all three classes of the Order are entitled to affix the abbreviation as a post-nominal, as in Sir John Doe, K.J.H. or John Q. Public, C.J.H.

A member of the Order is properly referred to as a Knight Commander of Jovak Helm, a Commander of Jovak Helm, or an Officer of Jovak Helm.

The Co-Consuls are Sovereigns of the Order.

The Order of Angatux̂, the Order of Runö, and the Order of Malargüe. Membership in these lesser orders are evidence of meritorious civil service to one's individual realm.

Members of the order are presented with a medal affixed to a suspension ribbon that may be pinned to one's clothing. They are also presented with a smaller ribbon bar for use when wearing the full medal would be impractical.

The post-nominal abbreviations "O.A.," "O.R.," and "O.M" may be affixed to represent membership. A member of these Orders is not a knight and thus not properly referred to as "Sir" or Dame."
